Megan’s Scoli Journey in Malaysia

Megan’s Scoli Journey in Malaysia

Hi, my name is Megan and I’m just a regular 16-year-old who lives in the south of Malaysia. I first found out I had scoliosis when I was 12/13-years-old when a doctor noticed I was standing a bit slouched. Fast forward half a year with all the appointments and chiropractor meetings, my family and I decided to get me a brace.

I certainly did not expect to see myself growing up with a brace. It was not easy at first for me personally. Bracing was very new to me, and I didn’t really have any peers who also needed to wear a brace. I felt that it was unfair to have to deal with something that was out of my control, but having scoliosis and wearing a brace eventually pushed me to grow as a person.

Even though I still doubt myself sometimes, the fact that I’m wearing the brace is a constant reminder that life goes on. I can’t just stop halfway through, despite whatever I may face. On the other hand, I’m glad in a way that I can inspire some people! Most importantly, I am also very glad that a group like this is created to connect us fighters, regardless of where we live in the world.

As a proof of not giving up, my curve has improved from 36-40 degrees to 17-20 degrees wearing the brace as shown in the x-ray below. I know it will not be easy, especially for those who are new to this, but just continue believing in yourself. Be an inspiration to everyone else and yourself because you’re bent not broken.
